Move-Up Sunday and Important Family Ministry Updates

August 20 is Move-Up Sunday for DCV Family Ministry! In addition to some children moving to a different age group or classroom, there are a few other important changes to Family Ministry that are beginning on August 20. Read on for all the details!

Infants and Toddler room:
Infants are welcome to join the nursery as soon as parents feel comfortable doing so. Some parents choose to check in for diaper changing and feeding as needed during service.

Starting Aug. 20, toddlers will also be in the nursery with the babies. There will continue to be two volunteers for infants and two volunteers for toddlers each Sunday. What used to be the toddler room will become a separate space for preschool ministry (see below).

New Preschool classroom:
Children who are moving up into preschool or continuing in preschool will have their own programming and their own space this Fall! Parents of preschoolers will check in their children at the check-in kiosk and then take them to what used to be the toddler room where they will have fun and engaging programming that is developmentally appropriate. Children can move up to the Preschool class any time after their 3rd birthday, but it is up to parents as to when they make the transition.

Grade-based transitions:
The structure for family ministry is that kindergarten to 5th grade children are checked in by a parent or guardian in the lobby, join service for worship and then head back to class. School-age children rotate through stations (Story, Craft, Games) in age-specific groups. The new groups starting Aug. 20 are as follows: K-1st, 2nd-3rd, and 4th-5th. On Move-Up Sunday, here is what to know:

  • Children going into kindergarten and 1st grade will start in the storytime station
  • Children going into 2nd and 3rd grades will start in the games station.
  • Children going into 4th and 5th grades will start in the crafts station.
  • Children going into 6th grade will stay with the adults for the sermon. They will also have the opportunity to join the DCV Middle School Youth Group

These transitions will take place on Move-Up Sunday on Aug. 20.

Proverbs 22:6 says, “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” As a church family, together we are committed to teaching our children the way of Jesus and helping them walk in it. The investment we are making in our children today will have spiritual rewards today, tomorrow and eternally.
