Advent 2024 Sermon Series

As we enter the season of Advent, many of us think of it as a time to prepare our hearts for Christmas. That’s true. But it’s also more than that.

It’s a season of entering into the story of the people of God who have gone before us in their waiting for the arrival of the Messiah. We know that rescuer and king to be Jesus, who appeared to us in the most surprising of ways — born as a helpless baby into poverty.

Advent is also a season for us to lean into our present waiting for the second coming of King Jesus, when He will usher in His Kingdom of light and love and eliminate all darkness and evil from our world.

But Advent is also a season for us to consider Christ’s third coming — His arrival in our present circumstances. Through His Word and by His Spirit, Jesus makes Himself known to us now. Like flashes of light in the darkness, signs of Jesus’ Kingdom can break in at any time.

Join us over the three Sundays leading up to Christmas as we explore these three “comings” of Jesus and experience the hope He has for us in this season.

What is Advent?

Advent is the four-week season of the Church Calendar leading up to Christmas. Advent means "arrival" and is tied to the arrival of Christ in human flesh and His second coming. It is a season of meditating on the coming of Jesus as a baby in a manger 2,000 years ago and also a season of leaning into awaiting His second coming.
