LENT 2023

What is Lent?

Lent is a 40-day season in the church calendar leading up to Easter, modeled after Jesus’ 40 days fasting in the desert, in which people create space in their lives for intentional prayer, repentance and being with God. It begins Ash Wednesday and ends Holy Saturday (the day before Easter). During Lent, people often enter into a season of fasting and increased spiritual disciplines in order to prepare for the joy of Easter.

EVENTS

ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICE | FEBRUARY 22

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. Many church traditions observe Ash Wednesday by setting aside time for prayer, reflection, confession and the imposition of ashes on your forehead. Check out the video for more information on Ash Wednesday. DCV will host two identical Ash Wednesday services at 8 a.m. and noon.

GOOD FRIDAY SERVICE | APRIL 7

You're invited to the Delaware City Vineyard to reflect on Christ's sacrifice this Good Friday. Join us for a Good Friday service where we will relive the final hours of Jesus’ life by reading through the Gospels together. There will be space for reflection, worship and receiving Communion during the service. This will be a contemplative, meaningful service with adults and teenagers in mind. If you have any questions, click HERE to complete a CONNECTcard and one of our leaders will get back to you.

LENT SERMON SERIES | FEB. 26 - MARCH 26

Join us for our Lenten sermon series on the Beatitudes. For more information on this series and resources to guide your own personal study, click HERE.

EASTER SERVICE | APRIL 9

You're Invited: Come celebrate the good news of Easter at the Delaware City Vineyard! Our Sunday Service time is 10:15 a.m. Consider inviting a friend, neighbor or other family members to come with you. We look forward to celebrating with you and yours!

Fun Fact! We will have a DCV Easter Photo Booth for friends, family and guests to capture memories.

PRAYER & FASTING

Lent invites us into a season of fasting so we can feast on God's Word and His presence. As a church, we are inviting everyone to practice fasting for the 40 days of Lent (minus Sundays) as a way of going deeper in our life with God and hearing His voice more clearly. Each week of Lent, we will have a different fasting theme and prayer focus. See the schedule below, along with a helpful fasting guide.

LENT RESOURCES

Lent not only invites us into fasting but it also invites us into engaging in new or deepened spiritual practices. When you are fasting from technology, you are invited to replace it with something else that draws you closer to God, like prayer or reading Scripture. Below are some resources to help you engage new or different spiritual practices during Lent.
