Advent 2025 Sermon Series

Advent is a season in which we learn to wait well. In this season, we remember the longing of the people of God for the arrival of the Messiah, even as we lean into our own waiting for Christ's return.

In this sermon series, we will borrow from Tish Harrison Warren’s lovely little book on Advent, specifically the four Advent themes she explores and how they inform the way we wait for Christ’s return.

Waiting & Hope
Darkness & Light
Repentance & Rest
Emptiness & Filling

As we wait, Jesus comes to us and fills us with hope. As we take stock of the evil and darkness in our world and in our hearts, Jesus comes to us with His light. As we embrace a posture of repentance, Jesus brings us to a place of rest where He can do His transformative work. As we slow down and acknowledge the emptiness in our lives, Jesus comes to us and fills us with His love.

What is Advent?

Advent is a season of the church calendar that invites us into four weeks of deep reflection on the advent, or arrival, of God in Jesus of Nazareth. It’s also a season of awaiting His promised return. Through focused Scripture reading and intentional spiritual practices, Advent prepares room in our hearts for Jesus’ arrival to us even now by His Spirit.
