“You teach what you know, but you reproduce who you are.” ~ John Wimber
DCV Mission can be stated as – to connect people to Christ, His Church and His Cause. To do this well we need Leaders. If we apply the list that Paul outlines in 1 Timothy 3 for church leadership, it becomes clear that the primary criteria for leadership in the church is character and not gifting. In that passage Paul lists thirteen qualities that should be present in an “overseer” or potential leader. Of the thirteen, twelve of those qualities are issues of character and only one, the ability to teach, speaks to gifting. While many men and women may be gifted to do ministry, the Vineyard looks for men and women of strong character to lead. As with Paul, in the Vineyard, character outweighs gifting.
